10 Successful Online Businesses And Ideas To Make Money Online 2019

Starting an online business is an increasingly attractive option because of the minimal investment required. Business conditions have steadily improved in 2019, and the positive trend is expected to continue throughout 2019. Perhaps it's time to start your own business on the Internet. However, having the right idea will be one of the most important determinants of success.

Statistics suggest that 42% of startups will fail because they create a product/service that the market does not need. The absence of a sustainable business model will result in 17% of all failures.

Maybe you're wondering if I write a blog or online business. This is partly because a blog is not a business.

It's more of a way to get attention, which you can then monetize. On the other hand, there are of course various possibilities to run an online business without a blog, eg online shops, software or apps.


1. Ebooks and Online Courses

Ebooks and online courses are digital products that help you solve the problems of your readers.

Ideally, you will conduct a survey of your potential customers in advance and build these courses or ebooks directly on the knowledge gained from them. In addition, you can sell an ebook not only on your own blog but also on Amazon Kindle or as a paperback book via Amazon CreateSpace and thus reach a whole new audience. These new readers you can make a little trick to newsletter subscribers. Online courses can be in audio, video, or text format, or a combination of everything. The imagination knows no limits.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is nothing more than referral marketing. You recommend products that you use yourself and that you are happy with and receive a small or larger commission when your customers buy from your link. 

This is a great, relatively passive way to earn money when properly operated. And that includes good products as well as sufficient visitors and a foundation of trust that you build up to your readers and customers. The more your readers trust you, and the better the product fits their needs, the more successful your affiliate marketing will be.

3. Consulting and coaching

This is similar to how freelancing is a relatively quick way to earn an income, but since you offer these services through your own site and build on your expertise, you can charge higher prices and create the offer according to your own rules.

If you have special knowledge to solve your target group's problems, set your hourly rate and off you go.

4. Services

I count various services that you can offer through your site. There are no consultations and no freelancing because you offer a very specific service for a specific target group.

5. Banner advertising

Banner ads are now not as easy to implement as they were a few years ago because you need large numbers of visitors to get good revenue. But very few pages attract such large numbers that it really pays off, exceptions such as peer of self-employed in the network confirm the rule. 

6. Apps and software

I personally have not experienced at all are apps and software. Basically, this is again a very own business model, which sometimes falls rather in the field of classic startups. But as an additional offer to existing online business apps or software can be worthwhile. 

7. Member pages 

Member pages are similar to online courses but with the difference that they are not available for a one-time payment, only for a (usually) monthly fee. In addition to regularly recreating exclusive content, they almost always offer a pronounced community aspect.

This means that the members buy because of the content and stay for the exchange with the other members and the creators. Member sites have the benefit of being an operator with recurring and predictable revenue. However, you also need to keep getting new content up and running on the forums to justify the monthly fees.

8. Workshops and Seminars

Maybe not the most obvious way to monetize an online business, but offline events can be a great and helpful experience for your fans and customers, as well as a great source of revenue for you. 

9. Online Shops 

Perhaps the most obvious way to make money on the internet, or at least that of the less affluent, is with online shops. You simply offer physical or digital products through a shop for sale. This shop can be your own shop on your domain or run on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, Dawanda or other portals.

10. Donations

Last but not least, there is also the possibility to ask your own fans and readers for donations. Maybe you're wondering if and how it works. But if you publish high-quality content on your site for free for weeks and months and help your readers, then many of these readers would like to reciprocate with you. And a very prominent example is, of course, Wikipedia, which ask for donations once a year. However, this only works if you offer real added value and build up a loyal readership.

 Other ways to earn money online

Freelancing

The fastest way to get your first income is certainly through freelancing jobs. However, you are thus still in the time against money trap and build you rather a location-independent job. 

If you still have absolutely no idea and really want to make money first then freelancing gigs can be but at least a first way. But you should not compare freelancing with setting up your own business unless your stated goal is to continue "just" swapping your time for money.

These were successful online businesses and ideas to make money online. Is there the right kind of monetization? Hardly likely. It depends entirely on your individual situation and your business. So try out what suits you best. Start with the variants you are most comfortable with and the easiest to implement. 

Coaching or Affiliate Marketing is much easier to get started than directly creating a video lesson if you do not have any visitors yet and you do not know what problems you will solve. So just start small, try out and gradually add matching monetization strategies. That's how I did it, and most of those I've linked as examples above, too.
